The Better Business Bureau along with VISA, Call For Action, the FTC, and the Treasury Department have come together to educate consumers about the recent internet crime wave called “phishing”. Phishing is when criminals send fraudulent e-mails or set up false websites to try and get unsuspecting consumers to give up personal information, like their bank account or credit card numbers. This year alone from March to April, reported incidents of phishing have risen 180%, says the Anti-Phishing Working Group. To combat this rise in phishing corporations and government agencies are coming together in order to launch a campaign to educate the general public on phishing and how it works.

"Protecting cardholders is Visa's highest priority, and through education, we can prevent cardholders from taking the phishing bait," said Visa USA Executive Vice President Doug Michelman. "Consumers should know how these scams work and should be suspicious of any e-mail that requests account information."
