The United States and the European Union have agreed how to combine Europe’s Galileo positioning system with the United States GPS system. The network will now use over 60 satellites, improving the accuracy of both networks. This ends a five year standoff between both areas wanting independent systems. The EU did not want to use GPS system which is run by the US military.
The arrangement will become official when political representatives for both sides meet to sign a formal agreement at the EU-US summit in Ireland on Saturday.
