The FDA has approved an application French firm Ricarimpex SAS to sell leeches in the US for use in the processes of skin graphs and restoring blood circulation. The company, which has been breeding the leeches for 150 years, believes the leeches can sure a wide range of problems from headaches to gout. However, the leeches will primarily be used for removing pooled blood and helping in reattachment surgery.


“Today, doctors around the world use leeches to remove blood pooled under skin grafts for burn patients, or to restore circulation in blocked veins by removing pooled blood, the FDA said in a statement.”
