The EPA has been given 2 months notification that it is going to be sued by conservation and fisheries groups for a poor job of judging the risks of pesticide use on salmon in the Pacific Northwest. Environmentalists claim that pesticides used by farmers wash off into streams killing numerous baby salmon. In January, a federal judge banned the use of 38 pesticides within 20 yards of salmon bearing streams until the EPA could determine the risks of the pesticides.
“CropLife America, a trade group representing pesticide makers and farm groups, argued the buffers could cost farmers in Oregon and Washington as much as $100 million.”
