Finally, the public and industry have had lt with spam. Spam is an annoyance and probably an illegal invasion of an individuals privacy. As are most annoyances, the regulators do not act unless they are provoked.

The buzz level around spam has gotten to the point that federal legislation is being proposed, law suits are being filed, and technological solutions are being proposed.

AOL and the FTC have already filed lawsuits; these can also be found at Findlaw.

What is needed, however, are some strong laws making spam illegal (or giving the FCC and FTC power to do so) in a similar way junk faxes were outlawed.
