The Chairman of the SEC, William Donaldson, is calling for the federal monitoring of hedge fund managers' activities. The SEC will vote Tuesday on whether or not to require hedge fund advisors to register with the commission. Donaldson believes that if the vote passes the SEC will understand advisers' practices better.
"’I believe we need to know more about the activities of hedge fund managers and the impact their trades have on what I call the 'other side of the transaction,' Donaldson said.”
"We are seeking to create an enhanced oversight regime that will equip the commission to better anticipate, find and mitigate areas of financial risk, potential fraud and malfeasance,’ he said.”
