The FDA has found an additional 5,000,000 flu vaccines in Germany and Canada and will now conduct an inspection of the vaccine production plants. Tommy Thompson, Secretary of Health and Human Services says that if the plant inspections are approved the vaccines will be imported. The FDA claims that upon approval the vaccines would be available in December at the latest.
"’We are dispatching the teams next week,’ said FDA Commissioner Dr. Lester Crawford. ‘If all goes well, the vaccines will be available within a few weeks.’"
"’About 17 million of the Aventis vaccine is still to come (about 3 million doses a week are being distributed), as well as 2 million doses of FluMist,’ HHS said in a statement.”
