We have been reporting for some time the pending crisis in nursing homes. The problem is that an aging population, coupled with decreasing budgets and increasing regulations, is leading to a real possibility that in the ensuing future there is going to be a dramatic decrease in nursing home facilities.

This decrease in accomodations is occuring at the same time baby boomers are ready to retire, who often have responsibility for themselves in terms of making arrangements for eventual long term care, but also frequently have responsibility for their parents.

All of the aforementioned circumstances, coupled with the fact that many boomers lost a considerable amount of their retirement as a result of the downturn of the stock market, leads to a darkening of the retirement years for many Americans.

It is difficult get policy officials to address this issue; in part because it is happening slowly overtime, much akin to lead posioning, without ringing national alarms.

There are a number of causes for this problems, one of which is a regulatory maze that continues to grow and is often enforced without common sense.

Read one real life example. Note the large portion of the budget
that goes for attorney fees and consultants.
