A combination of dozens of public and private organizations united under the umbrella of "Connecting for Health" is launching the first health care information network. The trial will be based near Boston, north of San Francisco, and in Indianapolis. The prototype is based around an existing network in Indiana. The three individual communities are in preparation now.
"By building on the Indiana Network for Patient Care, our established health information exchange, the Connecting for Health prototype will greatly advance development of a national health information network," said Dr. Mark Overhage, an official involved in the project.
"Boston has long been a center of electronic health record innovation ... we are ready to link our network with two very different communities in other parts of the United States," said John Halamka, MD.
