Doctors like the convenience and practicality of electronic medical records, but high conversion costs and compatibility issues still stick out as a sore point. Despite doctors' viewpoints, objections over privacy issues, and a whopping 47% of Americans, who think the privacy issues outweigh any benefits.

"This is a $30 million project, and it is not a revenue generator," said Valerie Bergeron of the Kelsey- Seybold clinics.

"We think over 15 percent of our members are using electronic health records and 30 percent will be by 2006," said Dr. David Kibbe of the AAFP.
