As the internet continues to grow in use, it can be expected that fraudulent individuals will attempt to exploit its vulnerabilities. After all the web is a market place of world wide proportions; where is it any easier to contact to many people so rapidly?
The latest internet scam is called "phishing". As an official of the FTC states:
" The "phishing" scammers send out email threatening to shut down some account that you have and ask you to provide sensitive financial information. The scam is very believable because the websites are loaded w/ familiar trademarks. The scam is dangerous b/c it exposes consumers to identity theft. Consumers can avoid this problem by *NOT* clicking on the links."
