Under the new ruling, passenger vans that carry 15 passengers over 75 miles will fall under stricter safety guidelines. The vans have a high rate of rollovers, which the NTSB hopes to decrease with the new rules.

“Fifteen-passenger vans have been the subject of two safety warnings and much scrutiny from the federal government in the past three years. When the vans have 10 or more passengers, they have a rollover rate that is three times higher than when they have fewer passengers, according to the Transportation Department.”

Van drivers will fall subject to the same ten hour of drive time rule as commercial bus drivers. Safety inspections and seatbelts are the major components of the latest regulations.
