The Court will hold a rare session today to determine the constitutionality the McCain-Feingold Bill. The ruling will oversee the way in which candidates raise campaign funds, and how the money is used. Those opposed to the bill argue that it violates free speech by infringing on donors and political parties.
“With reservations, President Bush signed the bill into law last year, saying it was an improvement over the current system. Within hours, court challenges to the law were filed.”
The bill puts strict limits on the amount of soft-money that can be accumulated and regulates political advertisements leading up to election day. Backers of the bill contend that it is nothing more than an extension of a 1976 ruling that upheld anti-*******ion laws.
