U.S. House of Representative's Homeland Security Committee is asking the Department of Homeland Security for more details on their past computer security breaches. In a letter sent last week to the department's Chief Information Officer Scott Charbo, Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., who heads the House Homeland Security Committee, asks for details of any cyber-attacks against two department components using software designed to steal passwords, and of other cyber-incidents affecting the department's networks.
During the 2006 testing, auditors identified more than 200 vulnerabilities on departmental financial management networks, the congressmen wrote.
"The Committee is deeply concerned that the vulnerable conditions highlighted in recent reports ... may facilitate espionage on the Department's computers," the letter added.
