President Bush has appointed the Unfair Trade Practices Team within Commerce to monitor how trading affects American workers. The Administration is attempting to prove that it cares about American jobs and employees. 9/17/03

“The Bush administration’s attention to China’s trade abuses is 2.5 million jobs late. We’ve been hemorrhaging manufacturing jobs for the last 21/2-years,” said Lieberman, D-Conn. “They’re talking a good game, but all it amounts to is a public relations offensive.”

The Team is also charged with investigating unfair Chinese trading practices that cost American business.

“Manufacturers complained about rampant piracy of intellectual property, forced transfer of technology from firms launching joint ventures in China, trade barriers and capital markets that are largely insulated from free-market pressures,” Evans said.

The Administration plans to actively pursue trading violations, in order to protect the free trade market here in the U.S.
