The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission(FERC) alleges that some energy traders, of the likes of Enron, have been manipulating sales data to show inflated prices and inflated volumes of gas which were sold.
Sales data are aggregated on a national basis and serve as a benchmark for purchasing decisions by utilites around the country.
Consumers demanded prosecutorial and legislative relief when simliar events occured in the stock market. They should demand nothing less in this case if all the reported facts are accurate.
The traders and private sector firms compilng the data must be
held accountable; however where were the gas transmission companies and the gas utilities? One would assume that if you either convey or sell a product you might know something about its price.
Consumers could easily trace losses in the stock market, what about the gas market?
