States Want to Kill Sea Lions to Save Salmon
Washington, Oregon and Idaho have jointly requested that NMFS authorize the three states to kill California sea lions. The States want to kill sea lions in order to prevent the pinnepeds from feeding on Pacific salmon and steelhead.. These two fish species are listed as threatened or endangered in the Colombia River.

The NMFS requests public comment on the three states' application for authority to kill sea lions. The NMFS intends to convene a Pinneped-Fishery Interaction Task Force to assist the Agency in reviewing the three states' application. The NMFS requests nominations for membership to this Task Force.

Comments and nominations must be received by NMFS by April 2, 2007.
