NMFS Considers Regulating Killer Whale Watching
On March 22, 2007, the National Marine Fisheries Service announced that the Agency is considering proposing regulations that restrict vessel effects on Southern Resident killer whales. In particular, NMFS is considering regulations that restrict the commercial use of vessels to watch Southern Resident killer whales in their natural environment.

NMFS requests public comment by June 20, 2007, on the Agency's advance notice of proposed rulemaking. Public meetings have been scheduled for April 18 and 19 in the Seattle, Washington area.
