NMFS Again Extends Comment Period For Arctic PEIS
The National Marine Fisheries Service and the Minerals Management Service have prepared a draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement for seismic surveys in the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas, Alaska. The PEIS is intended to support the issuance by NMFS of Incidental Take Authorizations to oil and gas companies during their seismic surveys in these two seas. The ITAs would apply to whales and other marine mammals.

The comment period for the DPEIS originally expired on May 14 but was extended to June 29, 2007. Upon request, the comment period has been extended again to July 30.
