NOAA/NMFS Seeks Nominations for U.S. Delegation to Future of the IWC Meeting
On January 22, 2008, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration called for nominees for one non-federal position to the U.S. Delegation to the Intersessional Meeting on the Future of the International Whaling commission. The meeting will be held on March 6-8, 2008, in London. The non-federal representative selected for this position will provide input and recommendations to the U.S. IWC Commissioner regarding the positions of non-governmental organizations.

The IWC's website explains the purpose of the Intersessional meeting as follows:

"At the 59th Annual Meeting (IWC/59) in Anchorage in May last year, the Commission agreed that an intersessional meeting should be held prior to the 2008 Annual Meeting to provide an opportunity for Contracting Governments to discuss the future of the organisation, given inter alia the impasse reached on the Revised Management Scheme (RMS) and the number of issues for which polarisation rather than consensus appeared to be the norm within the Commission."
All written nominations for the U.S. Delegation must be received by NOAA/NMFS by February 8, 2008.
