BOEMRE Cancels Cook Inlet Lease Sale 219
The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement has decided to cancel Cook Inlet Sale 219 for the 2007-2012 oil and gas leasing in the Outer Continental Shelf. BOEMRE's Federal Register explains that cancellation is

"necessary to allow sufficient time to gather new baseline data for environmental review, analysis, and identification of mitigating measures. The time will also be used to further develop and implement measures to improve the safety of oil and gas development in Federal waters."
Is this cancellation further evidence of de facto moratorium on permitting new oil and gas operations in the OCS?
