NMFS Seeks Comment on Navy LOAs
On October 4, 2012, the U.S. National Marine Fisheries Service published Federal Register notice of the U.S. Navy's request for several Letters of Authorization under the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

The first LOAs would authorize the Navy to take marine mammals incidental to the training and testing activities conducted in the Hawaii-Southern California Training and Testing study area from January 2014 through January 2019. The Navy is requesting authorization to take 39 marine mammal species by Level B harassment and 30 marine mammal species by serious injury or mortality. Comments and information must be received by NMFS no later than November 5, 2012.

  • The second LOAs would authorize the Navy to take marine mammals incidental to the training and testing activities conducted in the Atlantic Fleet Training and Testing study area from January 2014 through January 2019. Comments and information on these LOAs must be received by NMFS no later than November 5, 2012.
