Wisconsin Enacts State Data Quality Requirements
In addition to great motorcycles and cool cheese hats, Wisconsin has just produced one of the most enlightened and progressive regulatory statutes of any state. Governor Doyle this week signed into law Act 145. This new law imposes data quality standards on state regulatory agencies that are similar to those imposed on federal agencies by the federal Data Quality Act.

Act 145 requires that each state "agency shall, in cooperation with the department of administration, ensure the accuracy, integrity, objectivity, and consistency of the data that is used when preparing a proposed rule and when completing an analysis of the proposed rule...." (See Sec. 9).

In addition to its groundbreaking Data Quality requirements, Act 145 does much more to help small businesses, and Winston will be writing more about this remarkable new law in future columns.
