• US Rep. Sue Myrick hosting luncheon with healthcare lobbying group

US Rep. Sue Myric will give the introduction and opening comments as host of a luncheon scheduled May 24 titled “Competitive Bidding Congressional – Update – What You Need To Know”. Rep. Myrick, who represents Congressional District 9 that surrounds Mecklenburg County, was invited to host the event that is presented by former Republican congressional representative Nancy Johnson and University of Maryland economist Dr. Peter Cramton. The event, which will include other panelist, starts at 11:30 am at the Longworth House Office Building located in Washington, DC.

The event is being promoted as an hour and a half luncheon by the law and lobbying firm Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz P.C. formerly Baker Donelson, one of the largest law firms in the United States. Other panelists are Tom Milam, Member of Program Advisory and Oversight Committee (PAOC), Robert Brandt, Owner of City Medical Services, Paul Gabos, Chief Financial Officer for Lincare and Barbara Rogers, PAOC Member and President/CEO National Emphysema & COPD Association

Panelist member and luncheon organizer Dr. Peter Cramton has been a vocal critic of the governments’ current competitive bidding process. In an April 7 letter to members of the Program Advisory & Oversight Committee run by Medicare, Cramton criticized the design of Medicare’s competitive bidding program and wrote that program was “not an auction at all, but an arbitrary pricing mechanism.”

Myrick has pledged to work to abolish new healthcare laws passed by the previous Congress, signed into law by President Obama, and she voted to repeal what conservatives call Obamacare.
