Millions of illegal cigarettes filled with dead flies, human excrement and abnormally high levels of cancer-causing chemicals are being taken off the streets by councils according to the Local Government Association (LGA). It said efforts to reduce smoking and improve health are being hampered by the illicit trade, which also costs the UK economy around £3 billion a year in unpaid duty.

Five of the UK’s top tax fugitives have been brought back to the UK to face justice following a global HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) initiative, the organisation has said.

HMRC said it is “excellent news for all honest taxpayers” and released images of a further five people it wants to track down.

These are: Ahmed Salim Khezri, Norbert Dombo, Mohammed Kasim Farook (aka Mohammed Kasim), Paul Edwards and Murugasan Natarajan (aka Murucasan Natarajan and Raj Natarajan).

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Customs Department seized 3.1 million sticks of contraband cigarette in cartons loaded inside a lorry at Felda Tenggaroh in Mersing on Monday morning.

During the 1.45am operation, a Customs enforcement team stopped the lorry which was heading to Kota Tinggi and found 15,500 cartons of cigarettes worth about RM250,000.

The lorry driver in his 40’s was detained for investigation.

Johor Customs Department director Datuk Ramli Johari said the contraband cigarettes bearing the label Canyon were believed to be smuggled in to the state from a neighbouring country.

Selon les données publiées sur la page officielle facebook du ministère de l’Intérieur, les unités de la garde nationale ont procédé dans la journée du 18 août 2014, à la saisie d’une grande quantité de produits de contrebande dans plusieurs gouvernorats.

A Ben Guerden : Saisie de cartouches de cigarettes de contrebande, dont le coût de la marchandise saisie est estimé à 22 mille dinars.
