A driver trucking a tractor-trailer full of ice cream from Ontario into Manitoba also had illegal cigarettes and $500,000 in cash aboard hidden among the icy treats, RCMP say.

Seized Containers of Contraband Cigarettes [Peru]

Illegal cigarettes a growing concern in New Brunswick

A spokesperson  for the National Coalition Against Contraband Tobacco says numerous recent drug busts across the Maritimes are evidence that the number of illegal cigarettes in the province is growing.

According to NCACT spokesperson Gary Grant, buying or selling illegal cigarettes is not a victim-less crime.

N.J. man, Henrico man plead not guilty in cigarette scheme

Two men allegedly involved in trafficking at least $9.5 million in Virginia cigarettes for illegal resale in New Jersey and other states pleaded not guilty in federal court Monday.

U.S. District Judges Robert E. Payne set a four-day trial beginning Oct. 17 for Eyad Salahedin, 39, of New Jersey, and Issa Qatrawi, 29, of Henrico County. If convicted, each faces up to five years in prison.
