Retailers and public warned against selling and buying prohibited products

Sharjah: Authorities in Sharjah have seized a vehicle transporting large quantities of smuggled and non-contraband cigarettes.

The vehicle was spotted by an inspector when its owner distributed cigarettes to a number of others in different vehicles, who in turn distributed them to retailers for sale and promotion.

Paraguayan money man in middle of Miami, New York laundering cases faces extradition

But increasingly, U.S. authorities have been developing several money-laundering cases targeting the flow of billions through the Paraguayan hub, which they consider a giant washing machine for Latin American drug profits, knockoff consumer goods and terrorist fund-raising.

Authorities say some of that money — minus 15 percent in fees charged by Paraguayan and other currency exchanges — ends up in the coffers of Hezbollah, a U.S.-designated terrorist group aligned with Iran. The Shiite militant group has gained political and financial influence far beyond its base in Lebanon, extending all the way to South America, New York and Miami.

3 metric tonnes of contraband tobacco seized by Alberta Gaming Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC)

AGLC and Alberta Sheriffs seized contraband tobacco products from an Edmonton storage facility.

Over three metric tonnes of contraband tobacco products were seized following a joint investigation carried out by Alberta Gaming, Liquor, and Cannabis and Alberta Sheriffs.

According to an AGLC release, the 3,039 kilograms of tobacco was in the form of waterpipe (shisha) and contraband cigarettes and is estimated to be valued at around $2.5 million.
