Alleged cigarette trafficking figure sentenced to 10 months

A former Henrico County businessman who failed to report 350 cash cigarette sales of $10,000 or more was sentenced to 10 months in prison followed by two months of home confinement Monday.

In pleading guilty to the misdemeanor in July, Maher Mustafa, 31, owner of The Cigarette Outlet Inc. in the 7900 block of West Broad Street, admitted he knew he was supposed to file requisite federal forms on a total of more than $23 million in cash cigarette sales.

Up in smoke: Cigarette smuggling ringleader convicted; S.I. man was top lieutenant

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A Maryland man’s multimillion-dollar cigarette-trafficking scheme involving a top lieutenant from Midland Beach has gone up in smoke.

Last year, Staten Island resident Youseff Odeh, 54, was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder and enterprise corruption in connection with the scam, online records show. Odeh claimed to have sold 15,000 cartons of untaxed cigarettes worth about $780,000 to three customers alone in 2013, authorities said.
