When a shipping container with 53,740 cartons of knockoff cigarettes arrived at Port Everglades last year, the trail led from South Florida to Jamaica, the United Arab Emirates and India.
It began with a meeting in Jamaica between an undercover federal agent and an alleged broker who offered counterfeit cigarettes, bearing popular brand names, delivered on demand from a tobacco manufacturer and supplier in India and Dubai, according to court records.
