Editor’s Note: There is about 1 gram of tobacco in each cigarettes. 137 tons of tobacco is equivalent to almost 125 million cigarettes. At this rate, the HRMC will be seizing the equivalent of almost 1.5 billion cigarettes per annum.

More than 600m illicit cigarettes and 137 tonnes of hand-rolling tobacco with a tax value of £232m were seized by the government in the space of six months in 2015.
