PBGC's operations are governed by federal laws and PBGC-issued regulations, which cover how PBGC sets interest rates, reporting and notification requirements, and guarantee limits, among other issues.

• Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) — Title IV of ERISA contains statutes administered and enforced by PBGC. ERISA, as codified, may be found at the Legal Information Institute of the Cornell Law School. (Title IV provisions are codified in Subchapter III of Chapter 18, 29 U.S.C.).
