Expansion to the National Toxicology Program

The data access issue is just the first of a number of regulatory initiatives that CRE intends to include in its Interactive Public Docket program. Expanding on the initial concept, the next docket CRE plans to open will examine the National Toxicology Program and the upcoming Ninth Report on Carcinogens. As with the data access issue, the formal period for commenting on proposed listings in the Ninth Report has now closed. CRE will therefore extend invitations to interested parties to comment on -- either for or against -- any proposed listing or the contents of the Report on Carcinogens. The agents, substances, mixtures and exposure circumstances proposed for listing in or delisting from the Ninth Report that were reviewed by NTP committees during 1998 and 1999 included:

  • Dyes metabolized to bensidine (benzidine dyes as a class)
  • 1,3 butadiene
  • Cadmium and cadmium compounds
  • Chloroprene
  • Phenolphthalein
  • Saccharin
  • Smokeless tobacco
  • Strong inorganic acid mists containing sulfuric acid
  • Tamoxifen
  • Tetrafluoroethylene (TFE)
  • Tobacco smoking
  • Trichloroethylene (TCE)
  • UV radiation
  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Boot and shoe manufacture and repair
  • Diesel exhaust particles
  • Environmental tobacco smoke
  • Ethyl acrylate
  • Ethylene oxide
  • Isoprene
  • Methyl-t-butyl ether
  • Nickel compounds
  • Silica, crystalline (respirable size)
  • 2,3,7,8 tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD)
