Internet Body Defends Accounting Practices Amid Criticism
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) came under some scrutiny in recent weeks after ICANN Focus, an arm of regulatory watchdog the Center for Regulatory Effectiveness, posted an item on its Web site detailing the accounting issue.

ICANN Focus maintains that ICANN is a regulatory body accountable to U.S. data-quality law. The law applies to information disseminated by the government or groups sponsored by the government. Bruce Levinson of ICANN Focus said ICANN is under contract to the Commerce Department to conduct activities on its behalf.
