Editor’s Note: It’s varroa destructor and the pathogens it spreads, such as Deformed Wing Virus are the primary culprit behind bee health decline, see here. As for neonics, just this week the New Zealand EPA approved a new neonicotinoid-treated seed explaining “the risks to bees from the neonicotinoid insecticide clothianidin were well below the level of concern.” See here. France aims to ban use of neonicotinoids by 2018

The French National Assembly, the country’s lower house of Parliament, has voted for a ban on the use of neonicotinoid insecticides within the country from September 1, 2018.
Use on all crops, including inseed treatments would be banned. But there is a provision for granting derogation until July 1, 2020 by a joint order of the Ministries of Agriculture and of the Environment.
