OMB Increases The Transparency Of Its Rule Reviews
OMB's Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs has reviewed proposed federal agency regulations for many years and through many different administrations. OIRA's rule review has always been the subject of some criticism, most of which argues that the review should be more open to public scrutiny. A recent GAO investigation concludes that OIRA has increased the transparency of its rule reviews under the current Administration. Among other improvements, the GAO report commends OIRA for providing greater public access to its rule reviews through the Internet.
