Federal Criminal Charge Against Greenpeace, Inc.
The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed criminal conspiracy charges against Greenpeace, Inc for the illegal boarding a cargo vessel off of Miami. The charges demonstrate that the U.S. government will no longer tolerate crimes simply because they are committed by well known, allegedly well intended organizations. In bringing the charges, the Justice Department is setting an important precedent that a self-proclaimed interpretation of the public interest cannot be used to justify unlawful actions. A number of activist groups disagree with DOJ and have filed amicus briefs in support of Greenpeace, Inc. CRE will be critiquing key documents in the case.
