FDA Announces Availability of Imported Food Guidance
The Food and Drug Administration recently announced public availability of revised guidance on FDA's Interim Final Rule on Prior Notice of Imported Food. This rule implements section 307 of the Bioterrorism Act. It imposes extensive prior notification requirements on anyone importing, or offering to import, food including animal feed into the United States. The guidance document is being implemented immediately because FDA has determined that prior notice is not feasible or appropriate. However, FDA will accept comment on the guidance document at any time. This guidance document is of great importance to anyone in the food industry.
