A Critique Of The Bush Regulatory State
The Center for American Progress, OMB Watch, and Citizens for Sensible Safeguards Coalition released a report entitled "The Bush Administration and the Dismantling of Public Safeguards". If the report covered the subjects of science, physics, chemistry and deportment, the Bush Administration would, in the eyes of the authors, have received failing grades on the first three subjects, and would have been expelled on the remaining subject.

Notwithstanding the details in the report, it makes the overall point that the Bush Administration is singling out environment, health, and safety programs for de-regulation. A basic proposition which should be examined is that a conservative Republican Administration is simply carrying forth its commitment for de-regulation in a number of sectors. We believe a point could be made, subject to a detailed analysis, that the Administration is pushing its de-regulation objectives in a number of sectors with equal zeal and that environment, health and safety programs are not receiving undue emphasis over the de-regulation of economic sectors.
