GAO Recommends That SEC and EPA Establish Formal Environmental Compliance Data Exchange Program
At the request of Congress, GAO investigated and issued a report on SEC disclosure requirements for environmental information. The GAO report criticizes current SEC disclosure requirements and recommends significant changes. Among the recommendations is more formal coordination between EPA and SEC regarding EPA information on publicly traded companies' environmental compliance. According to the GAO report, EPA and GAO agreed with these recommendations.
