Bringing the FTC In Compliance With the Data Quality Act
A CRE letter to the FTC in response to a Commission decision on an appeal of a Data Quality petition describes how the agency needs to be brought into compliance with the Data Quality Act and OMB guidelines. Key among CRE's concerns are that the Commission: violates OMB guidance by sharply restricting public access to the information correction process; distorts the concept of burden of proof to prevent average citizens from effectively seeking correction of government misstatements; and reliance on APA-style dispute resolution procedures in lieu of the open and accessible dispute resolution procedures contained in the DQA while failing to address the substance of CRE's complaint that the Commission has violated their duty to adhere to their own information quality guidelines.
