CRE Commends EPA For Its Quality Control Efforts On The Echo Data Base
The EPA maintains an ECHO (Enforcement and Compliance History Online) database. The ECHO website is publicly accessible and is maintained by the EPA Office of Enforcement and Compliance. It provides online compliance and enforcement information for approximately 800,000 regulated facilities.

The CRE commends EPA both for posting this database and for the agency’s efforts to ensure its quality. EPA acknowledges that the ECHO data base is subject to the Data Quality Act and its Request for Correction process. EPA has even fashioned an online correction process specific to the data base. EPA’s website candidly discusses known problems with the database and the agency’s efforts to correct the problems.

We are sure there are errors in the ECHO database, but we have to commend EPA’s quality control efforts and process.
