Let Us Now Praise EPA QA Reports
The United States Environmental Protection Agency produces a Quality Assurance Annual Report and Work Plan. The QA Report is prepared by EPA’s Office of Environmental Information, Quality Staff.
EPA began preparing and distributing QA Reports on the Agency’s own initiative and before the Information Quality Act was enacted. The QA Reports include sections on EPA Quality Management Resources, Quality Management Training, Quality System-Related Accomplishments, and Assessments of Quality Systems at the EPA Offices and Regions.
The last available report is for fiscal year 2005-2006. It identifies deficiencies in various EPA Office/Region quality programs. It identifies the additional resources EPA believes it needs to continue and improve its information quality program.
CRE does not always agree with EPA. We must, however, give credit where credit is due. EPA’s QA Report demonstrates a long-standing and institutionalized Agency commitment to information quality. Other federal agencies should implement a similar reporting policy.
