EPA Issues ANPR for Nonylphenol Testing and Seeks Data on Industrial Laundry Worker Exposure to NPEs
On June 18, 2009, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency published an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking for aquatic and sediment toxicity testing of nonylphenol and nonylphenol ethoxylate. The testing would be conducted under the U.S. Toxic Substances Control Act. This ANPR also requests comment on how EPA should gather data on industrial laundry worker exposure to NPEs.

This ANPR stems from a June 6, 2007, petition filed by several environmental groups including the Environmental Law and Policy Center, the Sierra Club, the Pacific Coast Federation of Fishermen's Associations, and the Washington Toxics Coalition. These groups filed suit over EPA's initial response to their petition. After mediation, the parties settled the suit on December 30, 2008.

Comments on this ANPR must be received by EPA no later than September 15, 2009.
