EPA Claims Greenhouse Gas Endangerment Findings Meet Information Quality Act Guidelines
The Obama Administration has issued a remarkable document which surprisingly is not receiving the attention it deserves.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency claims at page 5 of its Technical Support Document for EPA's greenhouse gas endangerment findings that

"use of these assessments complies with EPA's Information Quality Guidelines, as this document relies on information that is objective, technically sound and vetted, and of high integrity."
The "assessments" being used by EPA are specified climate change assessments prepared by the U.S. federal government, the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, and others.

EPA explains in a footnote to its claim of IQA consistency that "issues concerning the data quality act" are addressed in EPA's Response to Comments Document for the Agency's greenhouse gas findings. This document is available on line at http://www.epa.gov/climatechange/endangerment/downloads/RTC%20Volume%201.pdf

Page 52 of EPA's Response to Comments Document begins a discussion of "Information Quality Act Requirements for Independent Assessments." In this section, EPA responds to the many IQA challenges and critical comments which members of the public made regarding EPA's proposed greenhouse gas findings and related documents.

CRE will not comment on these IQA challenges here. We do, however, commend EPA for acknowledging that the IQA applies to its findings, and that IQA compliance is an important requirement for the findings.
