EPA Issues Dioxin Non-Cancer Risk Assessment
On February 17, 2012, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued a press release announcing publication of EPA's final Reanalysis of Key Issues Related to Dioxin Toxicity and Response to NAS Comments, Volume I. According to EPA's press release:
"This document provides hazard identification and dose-response information on 2,3,7,8- tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) and the most up-to-date analysis of non-cancer health effects from TCDD exposure. The report also include a reference dose (RfD) and a detailed and transparent description of the underlying data and analyses. EPA will complete Reanalysis, Volume 2, containing the full dioxin cancer assessment, as expeditiously as possible. In Volume 2, EPA will complete the evaluation of the available cancer mode-of-action data, and will augment the cancer dose-response modeling, including justification of the approaches used for dose response modeling of the cancer endpoints, and an associated quantitative uncertainty analysis."
