President Issues Executive Order on Fracking
On April 13, 2012, President Obama issued an Executive Order entitled "Supporting Safe and Responsible Development of Unconventional Domestic Natural Gas Resources." This Executive Order establishes a high-level task force charged with coordinating federal oversight of domestic natural gas development. The task force is charged with ensuring that efforts to tap natural gas supplies in the country's shale formations are "safe and responsible." These new efforts often use new drilling techniques including "fracking."
