Effective Date of Federal Human Testing Policy Revisions Delayed
In 2017, several federal departments and agencies made revisions to the Federal Policy for the Protection of Human Subjects. These regulatory revisions were scheduled to become effective on January 19, 2018, with a general compliance date of January 19, 2018 (with the exception of the revisions to the cooperative research provision). On January 22, 2018, these departments and agencies published an interim final rule delaying the effective date and general compliance date of the revised requirements to July 19, 2018. The federal departments and agencies are in the process of developing a proposed rule to further delay implementation of the 2018 Requirements. The following agencies and departments are participating in this rulemaking: Department of Homeland Security; Department of Agriculture; Department of Energy; National Aeronautics and Space Administration; Department of Commerce; Consumer Product Safety Commission; Social Security Administration; Agency for International Development; Department of Labor; Department of Defense; Department of Education; Department of Veterans Affairs; Environmental Protection Agency; Department of Health and Human Services; National Science Foundation; and Department of Transportation; and Consumer Product Safety Commission.
