EPA Proposes Renewable Fuel Standards for 2020 and Biomass Based Diesel Volume for 2021, and Responds to Remand of EPA's 2016 Standards
Under section 211 of the Clean Air Act, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is required to set renewable fuel percentage standards every year. EPA has published its proposed annual percentage standards for cellulosic biofuel, biomass-based diesel, advanced biofuel, and total renewable fuel that apply to gasoline and diesel transportation fuel produced or imported in the year 2020. In the same Federal Register publication, EPA also proposes to address the court remand of EPA's 2016 standard-setting rulemaking, as well as several regulatory changes to the Renewable Fuel Standard program including new pathways, flexibilities for regulated parties, and clarifications of existing regulations. Comments on these proposals are due to EPA on or before August 30, 2019. At a later date, EPA will schedule a public hearing on these proposals.
