Navy Files For Sonar Incidental Harassment Authorization
The National Marine Fisheries Service announced that the Navy has applied for authorization to harass marine mammals by sonar incidental to Navy training exercises around the Hawaiian Islands. The NMFS stated in its Federal Register notice of the Navy's application that the Agency proposes to grant an IHA, but on mitigating conditions more stringent than those requested by the Navy. The public comment period on the Navy application ends May 24, 2006.
