MMS Acts on OCS Environmental Issues
On November 14, 2007, the U.S. Minerals Management Service took several actions relating to marine mammals and other environmental issues relating to oil and gas activities on the Outer Continental Shelf.
First, MMS published its final environmental assessment for Shell Offshore's proposed seismic surveys in the Beaufort Sea OCS in 2007. The EA concludes that with the required mitigation, Shell's seismic surveys will have no significant adverse environmental impacts.
Second, MMS published a long list of available NEPA-related Site-Specific Environmental assessments and Findings of No Significant Impact for various proposed oil and gas activities on the Gulf of Mexico OCS. These activities include seismic surveys.
